Microsoft Bing Search

Overview

Bing Search is Microsoft’s flagship search engine, powering millions of search queries daily across the web. As part of the Bing Search Quality team, I managed the design and testing of the Search Classification Engine, a critical component responsible for determining user intent from search queries. This engine classifies queries into categories such as namesplacesrestaurants, and more, providing a list of classifications along with confidence scores. The engine’s ability to deliver accurate and fast results has been instrumental in improving Bing’s search experience and market share.

Key Features

  • Intent Classification: Determines user intent by classifying search queries into relevant categories (e.g., names, places, restaurants) with confidence scores.
  • Low Latency: Delivers classification results in 50 milliseconds or less, exceeding latency KPIs and ensuring a seamless user experience.
  • Scalability: Handles millions of search queries daily, providing accurate and real-time results.
  • Market Impact: Contributed to Bing’s market share growth by improving search relevance and user satisfaction.

My Role
