The Digital Royalty Payments Service is a highly configurable platform responsible for processing millions of dollars in payments to content providers across Amazon’s digital businesses, including Kindle eBooks, Amazon Instant Video, Amazon Appstore, Amazon MP3, Digital Software & Video Games, and other expanding digital services. This platform ensures accurate royalty calculations, tax compliance, and accounting accuracy, powering Amazon’s global digital content ecosystem.

My Role

As the Software Development Manager, I led the development and management of the next-generation Digital Royalty Platform. My responsibilities included:

• Platform Development: Partnered with talented teams to build, innovate, and pioneer the royalty and accounting engines for Amazon’s digital business on a global scale.
• System Architecture: Designed and implemented a scalable, event-driven architecture using AWS technologies like DynamoDB, Elastic Search, SNS/SQS, S3, and Lambda.
• Team Leadership: Grew the engineering and managerial team from 2 to over 80 employees within two years, including leading the organization’s expansion into the Vancouver office.
• Operational Excellence: Improved operational performance by implementing key metrics, alarms, and proactive monitoring to ensure high availability and accuracy.
• Strategic Vision: Drove the platform’s vision and roadmap, prioritizing initiatives for scalability, regulatory compliance, and feature expansion.
